NOTE TO PATIENTS RE: BLOOD TESTS
A supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests.
Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems will still get one, but where your clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.
Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available.
If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.

From 7.4.20. NHS volunteer responders service for patients with high risk of Covid-19 (Coronavirus), and need assistance during self isolation.
People have volunteered their time to help high risk patients with driving to appointments and collecting medicines from pharmacies. They will make regular phone calls to check on vulnerable patients.

If you have cough, fever or shortness of breath, self-isolate for 7 days, and any members of same household to self-isolate for 14 days. If REALLY unwell during or after isolation period, you can contact NHS111.

CURRENT CLINICAL STUDY FOR COVID-19
Platform Randomised Trial of Interventions against Covid-19 in older people
Potential participants aged 50 and over with symptoms of COVID to self-screen via the website (www.principletrial.org). The study team can also help you navigate participation by telephone, if this is preferred: You should call 0800 138 0880 for telephone support.
CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) TESTING FOR PATIENTS
Can I get a test?
If you are registered at Primrose Lane Surgery and you have developed symptoms (such as a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste) within the past 6 days, you are eligible for a test from our practice.
How do I get the test?
As soon as you develop symptoms, call us on 01902 731583 and ask for a test. The test needs to be done within seven days of you first developing symptoms. This can be picked up at the GP practice by a well neighbour or family member/friend or it can be posted to you by the practice.
What does it involve?
You will receive a testing kit which will include a cotton bud to be used to swab the inside of both your nostrils. (All children should be swabbed by a parent or guardian.)
Make sure you do the test as soon as you receive it. After you have cleaned the package with the provided alcohol wipe, make sure it is safely returned using the prepaid envelope.
All instructions on testing and safe posting are provided within the testing kit.
How will I get my results?
The test will be processed within one day of receipt at the lab. Results are then entered electronically or posted to your GP practice who will inform you via text message.
Why is this important?
COVID-19 surveillance is vital for public health surveillance. It enables us to monitor the spread of the virus over time, across age groups and regions in a nationally representative population. This type of surveillance is essential for estimating the burden of disease and informs modelling of the progression of the pandemic in England.
If you have been experiencing symptoms over the last 7 days we invite you take part in our testing programme - even if you have taken a community test! Please call us at Surgery and we will immediately organise a self-swabbing kit for you.
SCAM WARNING - CERVICAL SCREENING
Public Health England (PHE) has advised of a potential scam involving a text message being sent to some women claiming to be from the NHS Cervical Screening Programme “Call and Recall” service.
The text message advises that the recipient is overdue for their cervical screening test (smear test) and to call a mobile number to book an appointment and provide personal details.
These text messages are NOT from the NHS cervical screening programme, please DO NOT disclose any personal information should you receive this message.
This has been reported to the Action Fraud Line.

MINOR AILMENTS SCHEME
Prescribing of over the counter Medicines is Changing
Your GP, Nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of minor health concerns. Instead , over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community.
The team of health professionals at your local pharmacy can offer help with clinical advice to manage minor health concerns and if your symptoms suggest its more serious, they will ensure you get the care you need.
- Minor Ailment Schemes (What pharmacies can offer patients) Practice staff may suggest this as a first line course of treatment. There are leaflets in reception headed ‘ Prescribing of over the counter medicines is changing’ which outline clearly what can be prescribed. Please help the NHS to use resources sensibly.

Access to Health Records Request Form
Our last Group Meeting (PPG) was held on 5th February 2020 at PRIMROSE LANE SURGERY, with no concerns raised.
The aim of the PPG group is to collect patient feedback and listen to patients’ views and suggestions for improving, changing and developing patient services within the practice. If you are interested in joining our PPG meeting, please contact the surgery and ask to speak to the Senior Receptionist (Jasbinder Bajwa) or the Practice Manager (Sheila Thomas).
Due to Covid-19 we have been unable to arrange a further PPG meeting, Jasbinder will contact all concerned when safe to do so.
Although Flu Season is officially closed now, if you have not already had your flu vaccination, please contact the surgery in order to arrange an appointment with our Practice Nurse or our Health Care Assistant (if you are over 65, have a chronic health condition or a carer).

The practice has carried out a survey as patients have advised they struggle to get in touch with the surgery via telephone. Covid 19 has changed the landscape and the surgery is trying to open other methods to connect with our patients.
